One of the lessons many Rutland homeowners have realised in 2020 is how much they’d previously undervalued outdoor space. From something that reliably occupied a place on
the ‘also nice’ list of criteria in their property search, a garden has been promoted for many to ‘essential’ status.
In the winter, those commuting from Rutland to the city, could expect to leave their home in the morning before daylight and return after dark. But all that’s changed. Record numbers are working from home, lots of us have made the leap into pet ownership, and without hours spent travelling or the distractions of the office, we can work more efficiently. Suddenly the view outside the window is accessible in a way it wasn’t before.
Of course, a generous-sized garden comes at a cost that puts it out of reach for many buyers but in and around Rutland, we are blessed with some glorious countryside right on our doorstep. As Alfred Wainwright wisely pointed out, “There’s no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing.” So why not get out there and explore on foot the multum that Rutland manages to pack into parvo?
Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing our favourite walks in and around Rutland. Why not try them out for yourself and let us know how you get on?
